NEO Roller Derby Mission Statement:
"NEO Roller Derby exists to provide an opportunity to build a positive relationship with women in the community through the sport of roller derby. We will demonstrate that women of all walks of life can be strong and independent, while managing a career and a personal life, and can excel in an otherwise male dominated sports world. We are a non-profit, charitable organization whose main focus is the empowerment of women and the protection of children".
NEO Roller Derby was founded in May of 2007 by 11 passionate ladies who shared the desire to bring the sport of Roller Derby to the Akron-Canton area. Others heard about their dream and quickly joined the league, making it a league run by the skaters, for the skaters. Through the hard work and dedication of these ladies, April of 2008 found them entering their first competitive season, making them the first bouting league from Akron-Canton, Ohio. Giving back to the community is a major part in the Roller Derby movement. All of NEO Roller Derby’s bouts are for charity. We have raised and donated over $15,000 to local charities whose main focus is similar to our own, the empowerment of women and the protection of children. NEO Roller Derby has put blood, sweat, and tears into keeping their dreams alive. In September of 2010 they achieved their ultimate goal of becoming a WFTDA (Women’s Flat Track Derby Association) League.
